Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about starting or growing an aligner business with AlignerHub.

Business & Market
How do I start a clear aligner business?
There are several paths depending on your clinical expertise and the investment you're willing to make: launching a direct-to-consumer aligner brand, supplying aligners to dental labs, or optimizing treatment planning and manufacturing for a larger operation. We support all three with software, treatment planning, clinical expertise, manufacturing, packaging, and shipping — regardless of your size or focus.
What is the clear aligner market size?
The clear aligner market is currently valued at approximately $2.6 billion. Grand View Research projects it will grow at a compound annual growth rate of over 27% through 2028, reaching an estimated $15.8 billion, driven by demand for aesthetic malocclusion solutions and advances in AI, machine learning, cloud-based tools, and telehealth. The industry has historically delivered a healthy return on investment, with many successful businesses built on outsourcing manufacturing and treatment planning rather than building it in-house.
What is dental outsourcing?
Having a third party handle key aspects of your aligner operations — like treatment planning or manufacturing — instead of building that capability in-house. It lets you scale faster, reduce capital and operational costs, and access expertise quickly, relying on an experienced partner to manage workflows from start to finish.
How should I price my clear aligner offering?
Start by understanding the aligner offerings already in your market, including B2C, B2B, and DSO brands. If aligners aren't yet prevalent in your area, pricing 20–40% above your fixed-appliance offerings is a reasonable starting point — aligner treatment is highly scalable and typically requires less chair time than braces, letting you treat more patients in the same amount of time.
Getting Started
What do I need to submit to get a treatment plan?
Prescription information and patient data, including 3D scans (.STL files), photos, and X-rays, submitted through our secure portal.
Is the first case really free?
Yes. Your first digital treatment plan is free, and if you proceed to manufacturing, your first 10 aligners are free as well.
What equipment or certification do I need?
An intraoral scanner (or physical impressions) to capture patient records. No 3D printer, aligner-forming equipment, or new certification is required on your end — our clinical team builds the treatment plan for your review.
Treatment & Case Review
Which case complexity can you support?
A full range, from simple crowding to Class II malocclusions and everything in between. We're committed to continuously improving material science, treatment protocols, and software to provide the most effective solutions for patients.
What is the expected turnaround time?
Treatment plans are typically delivered within 3–5 days of receiving a patient's full records.
How are cases reviewed and approved?
Every case record is reviewed and analyzed by a clinical team of orthodontists and clinicians who have collectively treated over 100,000 patients. If a record is unclear or incomplete, the team flags it right away and works with you to gather what's needed for an accurate treatment plan.
Manufacturing
How are clear aligners manufactured?
After receiving digital impressions and case records, clinicians and orthodontists analyze the data and break the desired tooth movements into a series of smaller steps. Each step is 3D printed, then thermoformed using FDA-approved Zendura or Essix material, trimmed, and polished to produce a custom aligner tailored to each patient.
Can I use only treatment planning or only manufacturing?
Yes. If you don't require manufacturing support, you can request treatment planning services on their own, and vice versa.
Support & Logistics
Can I get clinical support during treatment planning?
Yes, always. Our clinical team is reachable by text, phone, email, or through our case management software — whatever's most convenient for you, whether you need immediate help or have a question that can wait.
What if I run into a software issue?
Reach out to your account representative for help, or contact us through the site if you're unable to reach them — we're committed to resolving any issues quickly.
What happens if aligners don't fit?
Contact your representative right away to troubleshoot. If a new aligner is needed, a new intraoral scan is required to produce and ship a corrected set.
Which countries do you ship to?
Currently the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand — this list is subject to change as we add more.
How can I track my package?
Once your package ships, you'll receive a unique Airway Bill number so you can track its movement and expected delivery.
